Club Notes

Lee Strand St.Brendans Football Board Senior League Final:
Well done to our Senior Team who impressively dismantled a tough Churchill outfit in the final of the Brendan's Board Cup.
Churchill came in as underdogs but from the throw in made life difficult for us. With a strong breeze however we kicked an impressive 3-08 whilst conceding only 3 points in the 1st half and in particular well done to our 3 goal scorers Niall Sheehy, James Duggan and Wayne Conway with James also James also kicking a couple of lovely long ranged points.
The 2nd half was an excellent display of defending and in the end we ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-13 to 7 points.
Well done to Clive, the Management team and players for ending the season on a very positive note.

Lip Syng:
We held our 1st Lip Syng this weekend at Ballygarry House Hotel. Nine Acts took part with a Halloween theme entrance. Each Act gave a splendid display and the judges commented on the very high standard of each individual act. When all the votes were counted , Brian Hurley MC announced the overall winner who was Wrong Direction. This was greeted by a rapturous applause by all present. Many thanks to all the Acts, the Judges, Brian Hurley MC on the night and Choreographer Jackie O'Mahony who did a fabulous job. To the many volunteers and to Ballygarry House Hotel for all their help.

U 10s
On Saturday we played our final competition in the U10 Blitz in Austin Stacks. There were 16 clubs involved and 8 of them were from outside the County. We had 2 teams as did each club and our scores were combined to find the winner of the pairing. Our first game was against Ballymac and we started our day with a win with everyone playing well. Our second game was against the Cork side St. Finbarrs, and this was a closer encounter with the lads having to put in a great shift to eventually come out winners. Our final game in the group stages was against Dublin side Kilmacud and the efforts in the previous game came against us and we eventually went down by a small margin, but the lads gave it their all and we can take consolation that we outperformed our opponents in one of the halves. This got us into the Shield Final where we met another Dublin side Templeogue and we were up for it, one of our teams got a nice victory while the other team worked their socks off to grind out a draw and that was enough to win the tie and at the end the Shield was presented to Ben and medals for the rest of the lads. We would like to thank Stacks for putting on a very well run blitz and for the food at the end we had a great day. All the boys played well and there has been a huge development in their skills and tenacity and it was wonderful to see the improvement. There were so many players who performed so well on the day that I can't mention them all but you know who you are.
To the boys going up to U12 next year we wish you the best and keep up the commitment to Mitchels we are proud of you. To the U8s who came to our assistance on the day, thank you, you were massive for our cause and we will see you next year. To the U9s well done, you were excellent and we will look forward to working with you again next year and hopefully as much success as this year but more importantly that you will really have an enjoyable time and have lots of fun. From all the coaches we would like to say thanks to you and your parents for the year just gone and enjoy the break until next year, Na Misteallaig Abu.

Under 8 & under 10 Blitz

altU8 & U10 BLITZ:
On last Saturday we held our annual U8 and U10 blitz. This was the 17th year we have held this tournament. Over 450 children took part with 12 clubs playing in both age groups. In the U8 age group there was 30 games played with each team having 5 games. It was played in a total non-competitive format with every child getting plenty of playing time.
The U10 teams were split into 2 groups with 6 teams in each group. Each team had 5 games in the group stage. It was great to see all the Clubs giving plenty of playing time to all their squads. Our own team came out on top in their group with Churchill winning their group. It a good competitive final, Churchill proved a bit too strong and were eventual winners. Churchill have taken part every year since the tournament started and this is the first year that they have won it outright. A huge congratulations to the Churchill players and mentors.
The club would like to thank all those who helped make this another great success. To Humphrey and his team who looked after the traffic management, for those who got the pitches ready, the volunteers in the shop who kept us all well fed and to the referees who gave up their time to help us and in particular those who came from the other clubs. It was great to see all the skills of the game on show by the youngsters which shows the future of football is looking good.

Night at the Dogs

altaltalt
On behalf of John Mitchels GAA we would like to give a huge thanks to the people who made our recent fundraiser a brilliant night including Sponsors of our spot prizes, parents, club officers, Declan Dowling and staff of Tralee Dog Track, Face painters who saved us at the last minute, Sean Moloney, photographers, our raffle ticket sellers, George Lowe MC/organizer and of course our wonderful kids who make this all worth while ....
Also well done Cathal Lynch on winning our penalty King (and our up and coming Keeper Sean Broderick)
Our juveniles are our biggest asset and the money raised last night helps pay for the running of the academy and under age teams which is vitally important to us going forward
Thank you all so much for your continued support - we appreciate it
