John Mitchels Code of Conduct

JOHN MITCHELS Code of Conduct: Updated June 2011

The structure of Cumann Luth Chleas Gael is based on democratic
principles. All interactions by members of the club should be conducted with integrity and respect. Demonstrating integrity and respect is a two way process and respect should underpin all interactions between all parties involved in the club.

Officers, Committees, Managers, Mentors, Players and Members of John Mitchels should:

• Act within the Rules and law of Cumann Luthchleas Gael;
• Have the highest standards of integrity, sportsmanship and
• Uphold the constitution of C.L.G in the spirit as well as in the law;
• Provide leadership and motivate people to work for the aims of C.L.G;
• Understand his/her exact role in relation to other Officers/Members in C.L.G;
• Accept the authority of the relevant committee/council;
• Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere.
Principles underlying how we in John Mitchels participate in our code, how we operate and behave:
• First and foremost all our players participate for the enjoyment of our Gaelic games;
• The tradition, which attaches to our Club should be taught to our young players, leading to a greater understanding of who we are and the pride we take in participating with/working for/supporting John Mitchels;
• It is important that all our players are valued and always treated with the highest of respect. Their personal dignity and physical integrity are paramount;
• All persons involved in our club will be treated equally and fairly regardless of age, ability, sex, religion, social and ethnic background or political persuasion. Children with disability should be involved in sports activities in an integrated way, thus allowing them to participate to their potential alongside other children. John Mitchels endeavours to support the inclusion of people with disabilities in our code;

• With the support of the Club Officers/Members, players at all times will conduct themselves on and off the field of play in a manner that reflects positively on our Club;
• The effort of our all our teams should be applauded and not criticised;
• Juvenile participation in Gaelic games should enable them to have fun, make friends and become better players;
• We acknowledge the effort of the referee and thank him/her for taking the time to take charge of the game. We respect the referee and the referee's decisions. We also show respect to other officials, namely linesmen and umpires. The team captain always introduces himself/herself to the appointed referee as does the team manager. The person to communicate on the pitch with the referee and his/her officials is the club captain. The person to communicate with the referee and his/her officials from the sideline is the team manager;
• We respect our opponents and shake hands before and after the game;
• We respect club property at all times. Players respect the property of others while engaging in club activities. Players behave appropriately while being transported to and from games and take instruction from managers and mentors in terms of appropriate behaviour;
• The club does not permit the use of photographic equipment or picture mobile phones (or any technology based devices) on club property/during club business/activity. No mobile phones may be activated in dressing rooms;

• Club activities should not be discussed on social media fora excepted via fora approved, managed and monitored by appointed club officials;

• John Mitchels will not tolerate bullying in any form. Any cases of bullying will be dealt with by the relevant officials within the John Mitchels Club.
• Lack of respect by players toward their team mentors, fellow team members and/or any club official will not be tolerated. Players should play fairly, do their best and enjoy themselves and in doing so represent their family and Club with pride and dignity. Players should also communicate to their mentor if they are unable to attend training/play a game.

• All coaches/mentors in John Mitchels must complete the Code of Ethics and Best Practice for Children's Sport and is required to provide an updated Garda Clearance Certificate to the Juveniles/Senior Club Secretary (as appropriate).
• No mentor is to put himself / herself in a one on one position with a juvenile, for mutual protection;
• Under no circumstances should a juvenile player be corrected by physical means from a mentor. The club will not condone such a breach of rules and will not indemnify a member guilty of such misconduct;
• The club colours are Green and Gold jersey, white shorts and green and gold socks. All teams should present themselves in the appropriate club attire in all competitions;
• The Coach, Child Protection Officer and the Committee of John Mitchels GAA Club has the authority to identify and deal with all matters relating to discipline and conduct. Disciplinary hearings will be convened by the Club Chairperson and Club Secretary. Players, Managers and Mentors undertake to co-operate with any disciplinary hearings that may take place within the club.
• The club will appoint Juvenile Liaison Officers, independent of Club Officers, to oversee any breach of Child Protection Act.
"We are apt to forget that we are only one of a team, that in unity there is strength and that we are strong only as long as each unit in our organisation functions with precision"
